Summary
Referring mostly to Alfred Weber's location theory and to works of E.M. Hoover, the authors make some hypotheses regarding the location orientations of various food-processing industries. This forms the subject of the first section of the paper.
The subsequent section is devoted to testing these hypotheses. The authors employ simple methods of regional analysis in order to identify the actual location orientations of selected food-processing industries. The results of the empirical analysis confirm, to a large extent, the hypotheses made earlier. Nevertheless, there are some results which are not consistent with the model
In the next section, the authors relate location orientation considerations to public policy, trying to answer the question, whether these considerations can yield any premises on which location-planners and policy-makers could act in the sphere of the food industry distribution and rural development. The answer is, generally, positive, but more insight into this topoic is needed.
